Successful premiere on the Circuito Internazionale di Napoli

For the first time, the German Electric Kart Championship (DEKM) started on the 1.547m long high-speed track in Italian Sarno. The location couldn’t have been more impressive for the final races. Within the 20th Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals, the DEKM completed its races in front of thousands of kart racing fans from all over the world. Before the final race, there were two title favorites: Luka Wlömer and Jasin Ferati.

Bradley Barrett wins the first final race on Thursday

Jasin Ferati already proved during the free trainings and the first qualifying that he feels very comfortable in Sarno. From pole position, the Swiss started into the pre-final and won. His direct pursuer was British Bradley Barrett. He was in the lead for a short time, but Ferati countered. There was a thrilling showdown during the final race then. Barrett won the start, but two laps before the end of the race there was a tough fight between him and his pursuer Jasin Ferati. The final decision was only made at the finish line. Barrett won in front of Ferati and the Taiwanese guest driver Jie Kao. The other Championship favorite Luka Wlömer followed on fourth place.

Double victory and title for Jasin Ferati

On Friday and Saturday, the second qualifying, pre-final and final took place. Berlin resident Luka Wlömer took pole position at qualifying, but the victory of the pre-final went to Jasin Ferati again. The title decision was made during the final race on Saturday. There already was excitement before the start: Luka Wlömer had to forfeit the race due to health issues. To win the title, Ferati had to win the race now. Due to a perfect start, he was able to defend his top position and didn’t let go of it until the finish line. There, he became DEKM-Champion 2019. “I’m over the moon, the title means a lot to me. After a cautious start into the season I was able to turn the tide due to my victories in Genk and now I’m the new Champion”, rejoiced the 16-year-old in his winner’s interview.

In addition to the overall victory, Ferati (252 points) also secured the rookie Championship and 15.000€ prize money. Luka Wlömer (248 points) was 4 points short of the victory in the end. The Berlin resident receives 8.000€ prize money as runner-up. Bradley Barrett (205 points) was happy about Championship rank 3 and 6.000€ prize money.
